The worldwide Cenacolo Communities were founded by Sr Elvira in Italy to help addicts overcome drug addiction through work and prayer. Addicts may spend up to three years in the community and experience a deep spiritual renewal in the community also. A number of religious vocations have come out of these communities. When an addict enters the community he/she is assigned a more mature member of the community who is called his/her guardian angel to accompany him/her. These communities are a wonderful testimony to the power of prayer to heal. The philosophy of the communities is that we only rediscover ourselves in Jesus when we are lost. Below there are two testimonies I filmed in the Cenacolo Community in Medjugorje in June 2003 and reproduced here with permission. The first testimony is given by Hrvojé from Croatia speaking through an interpreter and the second testimony is given by Giggi from Italy also speaking through an interpreter. Then Hrvojé gives an explanation of the icon of the resurrection on the wall of the community chapel which is so meaningful for those overcoming drug addiction.
